1963, I believe. Kind of rat rod, but too nice. Kind of original, kind of arrested decay. Absolutely perfect. Modified LS3 engine moved 14 inches to the rear. Center console constructed from two doors. Turlock Swap Meet. Not for sale.

Hoooooo, that’s nice.

I have a friend who had a couple project cars/daily drivers that didn’t lock, so he also took the steering wheel with him when he left either of them parked

Not sure how well that overflow is going to work but it looks absolutely crazy in the best way.

I don’t think that canteen is rated to hold the pressure the owner is requiring it to do.

That’s awesome. Good inspiration for my rat truck.

It’s just incredibly tidy. The imperfections make it perfect.

Maybe there’s even a cap you could lock over the top of the column. I’d get a little boot to lock onto one of the wheels.

I’d expect it to work fine. The expansion tank doesn’t need to hold any pressure. They take it to some sort of burning man desert meet-up and the canteen is an
homage
to that.

I don’t think it needs to hold any pressure at all, just boiling hot (potentially) water.

A hell of a lot of love went into that truck. The exposed fasteners, the mismatched (but coordinated) panels, the canteen overflow, pushing the engine back, and that interior detail...

My friend and I drove over an hour and paid a $5 admission to the swap meet and that truck made the entire trip worth the effort and expense.
I like how this truck is rat-influenced, but not a rat rod
per se
. All of my automotive endeavors have to be practical and useful or I won’t fool with them.

He said he bought it with the engine already pushed back. I don’t think the performance aspects were this guy’s bag, but the appearance.
We drove over an hour to get to the swap meet and seeing that truck more than made up for the effort and expense. I took some ideas for my own treatment of Rusty...

If the radiator holds pressure, and if there isn’t some sort of valve between the radiator and the canteen, then the canteen has to be pressurized. The tube makes it one continuous system.

Regular overflow tanks are vented.

That’s a good point. I forgot about that.

I really like the fact that he took some Rat Rod ideas, but the truck isn’t really a rat rod - - he made it his own thing.

Evidence, perhaps, but proof?

That’s why it’s perfect. I don’t care for the rat rod aesthetic because no quarter is given in a rat rod to driveability or practicality whatsoever. What good is a car that’s miserable to drive or ride in? Not much, says I.

The valve is in the cap. That’s the way it is in the Old Days...

That interior is weirdly amazing. This guy is a mad genius.

If it can look classy in the application, and it will always look classy

That dash came from a ‘58 Chrysler station wagon of some sort.
Yes, mad genius, and more artist than mechanic. He bought the roller with the engine already set back and the trunk already set up. His thing is the metal work and the look.
It’s an amazing vehicle.

Perhaps. I’m not a fan of leather generally except in shoes and belts and saddles.
